Technically this is not a Restaurant Review but .. oh well! If you’re from Houston, you have to have heard of the Houston Rodeo. It’s downtown and filled with booths filled with food and there’s livestock shows and performances.
We went on March 15th or 16th. Forgot since it was a while ago. It was me, brother, sissy, her bf, Brett, and my dad. We loved it so much we went again that Friday, the 18th. This time it was me, brother, mum, dad, and June.
We started with the Shrimp Dinner which came with fries and fried shrimp. I’m not a big fan of fried foods but this was pretty decent. The fries were mushy but crunchy at the same time. Win!
We then got three Turkey Legs. Yuck! Not a fan of that much meat. But they somehow finished it all. I got three bites in and didn’t want anymore.
Here is the Strawberry & Lime Swirl Margarita. It was for my mum and dad. I had one the other night. So yummy but I think it has too much alcohol. They don’t agree. Oh well.
FUNNEL CAKE!! So good. I always crave funnel cake but I never make it myself. Maybe I’ll do that one day. But this was so yummy. I ate half of it. Shared the other half with June. Ah …. I want some!! They have a lot of different toppings you can put with it but it costs money for every new topping.
Dippin’ Dots anyone? My brother wanted some and he got it. Terrible picture. He kept moving it around. This reminds me of Shlitterbahn days when we would go with the orchestra and get yummy dippin dots.
I pretty much come to carnivals for Caramel Popcorn. If you’ve never had any before, you’re missing out. Get a life! I want to learn to make this but it seems like a sticky situation. One day .. one day.
Suggest everyone to go to the Rodeo if you’ve never been.
So after our family went on our day trip to Herman Park and then some, we went on to Bellaire for lunch:
Star Ice & Teriyaki
9889 Bellaire Blvd
Houston, TX 77036
First up we have the #12 Beef Noodle Soup | $4.75. I’m not a big fan of noodles like these. It has a salty broth and the meat is very chewy. But I love the noodles. It has the right bounce to it. It’s one of their most known dishes so do try it.
Here we have the #29 Spicy Squid (Fried) | $3.00. I love this dish. I’m not a big fan of squid because it’s always so chewy but this is terrrific. It’s chewy but not as chewy as other squids are. The outside texture is crunchy but at the same time a little soft. Yum!
Here we have the#2 Beef Teriayaki | $4.28. First thought when they brought this out was … I’m not going to be full off of this. Boy was I wrong. Definitely enough food for one. I even shared some with the family.
Here is the #37 Spicy Chicken Nuggets | $3.00. Same as the squid along the taste type but the chicken inside is very moist. It goes really well with rice.
Although I’m not a fan of the beef noodle, I would come back here again for the spicy chicken and the spicy fried squid. It’s not my first choice though.
Family day: 3/16 Mum,brother, sissy, dad, and me. We went for breakfast by my sissy’s place:
The Breakfast Klub
3711 Travis Street
It’s a well known place so it’s a must try right?
Definitely correct! I got Wings ‘N Waffles. It came with powdered sugar and a strawberry. I love, love, love this so, so much. No words can really describe it. I want to go back, order it, and gobble it all up! Their chicken wings were very crunchy on the outside and super moist on the inside. I’m not a big fan of pancakes or waffles that much but the waffle was crispy and soft on the inside. Just spectacular! I’m not sure how much it cost .. but who cares!
During Spring Break, all of us were back home so we went out for breakfast with the sissy downtown on March 13th.
3116 Bissonnet Street
I don’t know what it is about chalkboard menus. They make me so happy. I want to have a chalkboard wall in my house in the future but instead of using chalk, use chalk pens. Less mess.
I ordered the Build Your Own Omelet: 3 eggs, bell pepper, onions, mushrooms, spinach, and sausage. It was okay. There wasn’t much taste. Felt like it was super bland but I guess it’s good if you’re trying to eat healthy. It starts off with 3 eggs and a side of bread for $3.60. Every time you add a veggie, you add $0.65, Every time you add a meat, cheese, or sauce, $0.95.
When you build your own omelet you get a side of bread. You can change your choice of bread for $1.00. You should know by now my love for potatoes, therefore I changed it to hashbrowns. Bad choice. These were paper thin and dried. It tasted more like radish thinly sliced. I had to put a buttload of ketchup on it. I don’t like wasting food. I should of changed it to one of the other choices.
My sister said this place is very famous and very yummy. I do not agree and don’t think I will ever step foot here again. Terrible, terrible experience!
I’ve decided to incorporate my journey to a new me into this blog – weight loss.
An End to who I was. Long story short, I play many different sports throughout the whole year all my life but never got the proper workout I needed to stay in shape. For the most part I eat heathy foods though there are off days. I’m not a big fan of sweets therefore I know I’m not going wrong because of that. Just because one cooks it doesn’t mean one likes it or even eats it. It’s true! I feel that a lot of my weight gain might be coming from not controlling my portions and not getting enough sleep. But that is all going to change.
For a little over a week now, I’ve been keeping on this journey. I’m hoping I can run long distances for once in my life and has taken on Couch to 5k (C25K). Yesterday I finished week 2 day 2. I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish this 9 week process. I’m not doing the program because I want to run faster but because I want to gain stamina. Baby steps to gaining distance then running faster. I am now able to walk/run 3.4 miles in less than an hour. It might not be any accomplishment to you but for me, it’s big since I was never able to do that with so much running involved.
Also, I’m watching my portion sizes. I still eat what I want when I want as long as I don’t over-indulge or binge. In these 10 or so days I’ve lost 3.9 pounds. Good? I guess. But I know that this is the beginning and pounds shed faster then. I’m hoping doing this will help me out in keeping it going.
So though writing all this down starts today, my first real day is May 16, 2011. I know this might take months and even years until I gradually make it to my happy weight but I am determined to do so. I’m not sure what I will write about but either way, something’s going to get written about.
