Red Oak Grill

My sissy, brother, and Tammy were home and so on May 17th the whole family went to:

Red Oak Grill
2004 South Mason Road
Katy, TX
(281) 392-2612
www.redoak-grill.com

We ordered and shared the Stuffed Jalapenos | $3.99. It’s under the Sides section. It was really yummy. It wasn’t very spicy and the cheese was pretty sharp. I didn’t even need the ranch dressing that came with it.

For my main dish I got the Gyro [savory beef and lamb slices with creamy Tzatziki sauce, served with Tabouleh and Hummus] | $11.89. It’s under the Red Oak Specials section. The gyro was okay. Beef and lamb was moist but I think I went on a bad day. It was a little on the bland side. Hmm … maybe I’m just comparing it too much with Pasha’s. The hummus was really regular. But the thing that ruined the whole plate for me was the Tabouleh. Tabouleh is usually made of bulgur, finely chopped parsley and mint, tomato and spring onion, seasoned with lemon juice and olive oil. I’m not a fan of mint and that taste just kind of grosses me out. I whacked it off my plate onto my dad’s. He seemed to love it.

I would not come back here again. The food overall was not great at all.

Turquoise Grill

The day after my birthday, May 14th, I had a few friends celebrate with me. I’m not much of a birthday celebrator of my own birthday. Growing up it was only family celebration and that was it. Other kids had birthday parties with other kids … not me. I decided on:

Turquoise Grill
3701 Kirby Dr #160
Houston, TX
(713) 526-3800
www.tghouston.com

They gave us a plate of Olive Oil & Herb Mixture for dipping. Mmm yum! I made sure not to eat a lot of this so I can enjoy my meal much better.

This is the Shepherd’s Bread it came with for dipping. The bread was really fluffy and I couldn’t get enough of it. But like I stated before, I had to keep my tummy empty for my meal.

I ordered the Hummus [garbanzo beans pureed with tahini paste, lemon juice, and garlic] | $4.75. I forgot to take a picture. ūüė¶ But it was surely delicious. It was more grainy than smooth but I didn’t mind that. I shared it with everyone at the table so that I wouldn’t be eating a lot before the meal.

My main dish: Adana Kebab Platter [world-famous blended mixture of spicy ground beef and ground lamb tucked on a flat shish and grilled to perfection. served with our homemade lavash flat bread, bulgur pilaf and piyaz (Turkish bean salad)] | $10.95. That’s the price I paid but online it says $13.50. Hmm … I’m not sure why. Maybe the prices have changed since then. I don’t see the bread on my dish and don’t remember having it. But this dish is worth the money. The beef and lamb is very moist and soft and the whole dish is really filling.

The price is pretty high compared to Pasha’s Mediterranean Grill so I think I’d rather stick with Pasha’s. It’s still my favorite Greek/Mediterranean place.

We went to Little Woodrow’s afterward for a beer. My friend, Michelle, bought me a mug of Blue Moon. Yum! The other mug full is hers. I believe she got XX.

C25K: Week 5 – Run 2

I did it! Only one step closer to the end. Today’s challenging run was a total of 31 minutes of exercise with 16 minutes of running. [Warm Up 5, Run 8, Walk 5, Run 8, Cool down 5].

I seriously thought I was going to die in the last few minutes of the first run. In my head I kept thinking, how can I do 8 minutes? That’s ridiculous. I’ve never run that long unless it has to do with sports and even then I’m huffing and puffing. My reply to myself was that after this, I only have one run left and I’d be done for the day. When the second run came all I could think was how I’m almost done. The second run was much easier when I had that mentality. And can I add I had less huffing a puffing. That came toward the end during the cool down. Success? I believe so.

When I run I have little spots in front of me. My destinations. I feel really accomplished when I get there before my running period ends before I needed to start walking. I’m happy to say that I actually ran farther than where I had my destinations. In return I kept making a new destination until time was up. This really helps me get further and think less about the burning sensation in my legs. I’m not sure if it’s because my old and new injuries are flaring up or because my shoes aren’t right for running … or both?

I’m scared for Friday when I have no walks except for warm up and cool down but I know I can do it!

What made me even happier was coming back from my run and seeing a tiny package with my name on it!

My A string popped on me when I was playing a week and a half ago. Recently bought these online at Sam Ash. They have fast free ground shipping! They are very trusted and has been the only store I go to for any acoustic guitar needs ever since I started learning a year ago. They sell other instruments and accessories too. I’m not sure these were the ones I bought last time but nonetheless, I’m excited to put them on and play again! Ahh!

ABCs About Me

At the moment, I’m at work but things are still being set up so I can’t really do my job until that gets done. Think I’ll do this to pass my time here at the office. I got this off of Rachael’s Happy Healthy Runner. You can read her responses here.

A. Age: I just turned 22 last month. I’m getting old!

B. Bed size: Depends on where I am. I have a twin bed here at home in my room but when my brother’s not here, I sleep in his room, a double. Which is also the size I have up in college.

C. Chore you hate:¬†Mopping, vacuuming, throwing out the trash … and so much more.

D. Dogs:¬†I love them! I really want a shiba¬†inu¬†but they are hella¬†expensive. Darn! My family got a dog last summer. A border collie, Rocky. My brother and his girlfriend, Tammy both have a dog which to me are like my dogs. Well, more like my nephews. One’s a yorkie¬†poo they got in 2007, Krypto, and another is a chihuahua mix they got in 2009?, Pluto. Love them to death but I really cannot wait for my own dog.

E. Essential start to your day: Usual morning routine: brush teeth, wash face, change, pack lunch, and head out the door in less than 30 minutes. Simple and fast.

F. Favorite color:¬†I don’t think I have one. I’m in love with so many colors … purple, robin egg blue, kelly green, etc.

G. Gold or silver: This is hard … since I like silver gold. (It looks silver.)¬†Too bad it’s very expensive. So I guess I’ll go with silver.

H. Height: 5′ 7″. Is it weird¬†I wish I taller?

I. Instruments you play:¬†I’ve played the violin since 2nd grade but stopped right when high school ended. I self-taught myself the guitar a year ago and still sound terrible. I dabble on the keyboard. Oh and in 5th grade, everyone had to play the recorder so I got that also.

J. Job title:¬†I’m a student in college but in the summer I’m a Geological Technical Assistant or Data Management.

K. Kids:¬†Nopeee. I’m no where near that.

L. Live: Houston, TX … okay, okay you got me. I live in Katy, TX but it’s like Houston since it’s so close. During school time I live in San Antonio.

M. Mom’s name: Her American name is Joyce.

N. Nicknames: My American name is Melissa. One of my close friends call me Hawk because she thought that was the middle name of my Chinese name. Some people call me Cripple, MelHo, MHo, etc.

O. Overnight hospital stays: I never stayed overnight in a hospital. I hate hospitals. My Uncle was there when he was diagnosed with cancer but I was too young then to stay there overnight.

P. Pet peeve: I have many pet peeves but since Rachael talked about traffic, I’ll put in my two cents. People are not courteous to one another and a lot of times cause their own crashes due to carelessness. You are not smart when you are trying to get to the freeway and cut everyone off because you don’t want to wait. Others don’t want to wait either and you cause¬†even more traffic for everyone else that is trying to take the feeder. If I was the one you’re trying to cut off, I wouldn’t let you through.

A typical morning in Houston

Q. Quote from a movie: I love you a million swedish fish. – If you know where this came from I’ll love you a million swedish fish as well.

R. Right or left handed:¬†I’m ambidextrous. Though others would tell you differently since my left hand does produce funky handwriting.

S. Siblings: A sissy and a brother.

T. Time you wake up: During work time, 5am – 5:30am. During school time it ranges from when my first class starts. On weekends it depends on what I have planned. Most of the time I’m awake by 10am.

U. Underwear: Under there?

V. Vegetables you dislike: Bitter melon. Detest! That’s the first thing that came into my mind.

Gross .. this is what a bitter melon looks like.

W. What makes you run late: Traffic. I’m pretty good at getting to places early or on time. I hate when traffic puts me back.

X. X-Rays you‚Äôve had: My teeth and recently my foot. Fractured my metatarsal that’s located in my foot from basketball. I didn’t even know til six months later when I couldn’t walk. I think it’s still fractured but it’s not that painful so I’m still running on it. Maybe that’s not a smart idea.

Y. Yummy food you make: I really like making my Chicken Pesto Pasta with a lot of vegetables.

Z. Zoo ‚Äď favorite animal: I love monkeys!! Though I don’t think I’m a big fan of zoos.

That just took some time off my work hours. Only one more hour til I get off! Today is a running day. Yay! C25K: Week 5, Day 2 …. HERE I COME!
