Black Walnut Cafe

Like stated on my previous post, I went over to Michelle’s house Friday night. I was a little scared driving through the countryside.

Eyes on the road. Safety first! 😛

When I got to her place, Stephanie was already there. We went to the backyard.

Isn’t it beautiful?! They have a river out back and past the grass you go down a slope and there’s more land and the gazebo you see on the left. Pretty neat huh?

They have a really gorgeous house. Plus, their family is really sweet.

Yesterday, June, Timothy, and I went out to Sugar Land to celebrate our cousin, Kenson’s, birthday.

We went and watched Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

I wasn’t really a big fan of wanting to watch this movie because they took Megan Fox out and added that model girl, who I don’t really care to know the name of.  But I still wanted to see it nonetheless.

Though I don’t like the girl, I like her hair. Especially when they were standing in rubble and she was talking into the camera.

I knew I would like this movie but I was hoping my cousin wouldn’t pick it because it was two hours long. I even tried to make him not pick it by saying “I heard it sucks! Let’s watch something else.” In the end, I still wished we didn’t see it in the theater.

Shia LeBeouf is as sexy as ever. As is Josh Duhamel.

Oh, and I’m not ashamed to say I shed some tears in this movie.

Anyway, for dinner, we went to:

Black Walnut Cafe
16535 Southwest Fwy #2002
Sugar Land, TX
(281) 565-7800

First off, I ordered the Toasted Raviolis “Español” [ravioli, mild jalapeño cheese, tomato & Pavia alfredo sauces, garlic bread] | $8.50 to share with the group.

I was told this was the best dish on the menu and everyone ordered it. Sadly, I was not a fan of the ravioli. It was crispy but on the inside, it was very dry. But the garlic bread was to die for. Crispy and moist enough.

For my main meal, Meatball Sandwich [house-made meatballs, mozzarella, tomato & Pavia alfredo sauces, onion baguette] | $8.50.

The meatballs were a little dry but I really liked the onion baguette. It was just the right crunch but also soft. The fries were mushy, just how I like it.

I would like to go here again and try other dishes. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t 100% terrific. Maybe I just need to order something else that people love.

I can’t believe the weekend is already over! Sad, sad! Hope you guys had a good weekend!!

Saltgrass Steakhouse

Tonight my brother and sissy took my cousin, Timothy, out for his belated graduation dinner. I tagged along. 😉

We went to:

Saltgrass Steakhouse
8943 Katy Freeway
Houston TX
(713) 461-6111

My sissy was already waiting at the restaurant when my brother and Timothy got there. This was sitting on the table and our first question was, “Is this real?!”

And real it was. It’s their very own Shiner Bock Beer Bread [with butter] | free. Yum. It was very melt-in-your mouth kind of deal and very wheaty tasting. It was gone pretty quickly.

My sissy went on ordering the Artichoke and Spinach dip for us to share … but the manager came out and told us it was out. We cried a bit. (Just kidding!)

The manager asked if we wanted something else instead. He then gave us some options that people loved the most.

First he suggested Mushroom caps. Sadly, Timothy hates them. So we told that to him.

Then he suggested Range Rattlers which has shrimp inside stuffed in jalapenos. My sissy is a vegetarian so we couldn’t order that. (We didn’t tell him this though.)

So my sissy went on to order us French Fried Onions [thinly sliced & piled high served with our border sauce] | $6.49. It wasn’t a favorite for me. The onions were too thinly sliced (guess that’s why it’s french?) and it was too much battered than onions. We couldn’t even taste the onion flavored.

We also ordered the Chuck Wagon Cheese Fries [fried potatoes, topped with melted jack & cheddar cheese, bacon, sour cream, & chives] | $6.99.

When we ordered this, we asked for bacon on the side. But when it came to us, bacon was everywhere! So we told the manager and he fixed it right up for us! This was a win! We all loved this. And ate it all up!

Because of kitchen error and server error, we ended up not having to pay for our French Fried Onions or Chuck Wagon Cheese Fries. WIN WIN WIN! FREE FREE FREE!! YAY!

For my main entree I got the Chopped Sirloin Steak [Certified Angus Beef ground steak topped with: grilled onions, cheddar cheese & diced tomatoes OR grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms & cognac pepper sauce] | $14.99. Plus you get either soup or salad with your entree. I got Potato soup.

The potato soup was delicious. It was very thick but also soupy. Make sense? It was just delicious! The chopped sirloin was not up to par with others that I’ve had before. It wasn’t disgusting but it wasn’t great. I only had 1/4 and packed the rest home. With the mashed potatoes .. delicious. Loved it. It was very fluffly but I only had a few bites and packed it home as well.

Those free appetizers really filled me up. And on top of that my sissy ordered a Shiner Bock before we arrived and she needed help with it. 😉

We had the worst server in the earth of servers. He came every fifty thousand minutes (exaggeration at its best!) and when he came, he usually got things incorrectly. Though he tried to smile through you could tell he was unhappy working there. Sir, please quit your job. You would be so much happier.

But that didn’t make us angry with our meal. We had fun time together reminiscing and talking about future things. Then we went back to our house and played Partini. Never heard of it?! It’s like charades but better.

My sissy, Timothy, and I never played before. We chose teams and in the end, my brother and I won. 🙂

So far it’s been a good 4 day weekend. Not anything to really complain about except for the whole getting sick thing.

Tomorrow Brett is coming in and we’re going to bar-b-que for Fourth of July. Sahweet!!

What are your plans for Fourth of July day?!

Time to relax. Night y’all!!

Cheddar’s Casual Cafe

On the day of my birthday, May 13th, June got work off and my brother came down so we had a breakfast/lunch celebration before the dinner celebration at:

Cheddar’s Casual Cafe
21150 Katy Freeway
Katy, TX 77449
(281) 578-0593

We shared the Triple Treat Sampler [a combination of beef, bean, and cheese nachos plus your choice of two others: loaded potato skins, crispy chicken tenders or mozzarella cheese sticks] | $7.99. We chose the loaded potato skins and crispy chicken tenders. The nachos were delicious. I wish there were more jalapenos though. The potato skins are very regular. I wish we picked something else. The chicken tenders are to die for. They were very juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I would definitely come back for the chicken tenders.

June ordered the Grilled Salmon [choose grilled, blackened or bourbon glazed salmon. Served on a bed of savory rice with two sides] | $9.99. She chose the salmon to be grilled and ordered a side of mashed potatoes and coleslaw. She liked it a lot. I tried the mashed potatoes. They were very moist and fluffy.

My brother ordered Shepard’s Pie [a complete meal of seasoned beef and vegetables in a savory sauce, classically topped with homemade mashed potatoes] | $7.29. I’ve never had Shepard’s pie before so I had to steal some from the brother. I loved it and want to go back to get some more. I would order more mashed potatoes on the side though because I felt there wasn’t enough.

I got the Fish Tacos [hand breaded, fried, white fish in flour tortillas, with roasted corn slaw and cajun tartar sauce. Two tacos served with choice of one side. Fresh off the grill version – also available] | $6.49. I got the fresh off the grill selection and this was very delicious. I didn’t use the sauce though because it tasted funny and the fries were okay. Not that great.

I would come back here and get the Shepard’s pie or crispy chicken tenders. Yum!

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill

On the weekend of the 17th of April, my brother and Tammy came down along with my sissy. Too bad my sissy left before we went to eat delicious food at:

Z’ Tejas
15900 La Cantera Parkway
San Antonio, TX 78256
(210) 690-3334

We all shared the Tejas Trio [fresh chips, hand-hacked guacamole, chile con queso with chorizo and salsa picante] | $9.75. The guacamole was my favorite but they gave so little of it. Wish I ordered the guacamole where they make it in front of you. Would of gotten more.

You get a choice of freshly baked muffins or cornbread. I was a little iffy about cornbread (not a big fan) and insisted on muffins but they wanted Cornbread so cornbread we got. Surprisingly it’s the best cornbread I’ve ever had. I would come back for this!

For my main dish I got the Huevos Rancheros [eggs cooked over easy, with Jack cheese, salsa picante and sliced avocado, served with pureed black beans, flour tortillas and home-fried potatoes] | $8.95. The meal itself was very delicious. Only thing I was unhappy about was how they put tortilla chips at the bottom of my eggs, etc. It was super soggy and made it chewy and soft. The potatoes was really delicious though.

I would come back here to try other things. It’s a very simple menu but it’s perfected.

My friend Trisha and I wanted a burger before a meeting on the 29th of March and ended up at:

11309 Bandera Rd #30901
San Antonio, TX
(210) 680-0987

This is my whole meal. Looks pretty scrumptious. Let’s break it down.

First off we have the Mushroom Swiss [garlic sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and mayo on an egg bun] | $5.99. Depending on the size of the burger it costs more. I think I got the 1/3 lb burger. If it was a 1/2 lb, $6.99. I was surprised there were so many mushrooms! Usually when you go out for a burger and get the mushrooms with it, they give you a few slices. This one had mushrooms in every bite. Yummy! And the burger was very juicy.

If you wanted any thing added on to your burger it cost extra. I really wanted a fried egg but for $.99 … no thanks.

If you wanted fries, you had to order them separately. What kind of place is this?! Money suckers! Smashfries [tender and crispy fries tossed with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic] | $2.99. Not a fan of this at all. Wasted my money. It had a weird taste. Guess you have to have that palette to enjoy it. If you ordered a sandwich instead of a burger, the fries would be $1.99. Still don’t think it’s worth it.

Here we have the Fried Pickles [fried dill pickles served with buttermilk ranch dressing] | $2.99. So delicious. I would definitely come back for this! It had some kind of breading that gave it a unique flavor. Yummm!

Overall it’s a good place to eat. Just too pricey. I don’t think I’ll come back anytime soon for anything here.
