Getting Fatter

I’ve been M.I.A. and I’m not sorry. Family came and I’d rather spend it with them since I never see them. You’ll be able to see what we did down below which is mostly eating. Bah …

TUESDAY:

IMG_20130611_123811

Lunch with contractor company at the Omni Hotel. YUM!

Happy hour after work with Mallory, Stephen, Samantha and a nice reunion with Judith. It’s been forever but it was nice seeing her.

WEDNESDAY:

IMG_20130612_064348

OOIAJ for breakfast can never go wrong.

IMG_20130612_140200

At work. Our playground. Taking a break from working on our presentation that will be on this upcoming Wednesday. Eeks.

THURSDAY:

PhotoGrid_1371439031544

Mary Kay party with Mallory, Judith, Maggie, Mallory’s sister and mum, and her friend from soccer. I bought a few things that ended up being in the 80s. Whoops. Hopefully it’s worth it. Never thought I’d feel like a grownup until I bought expensive crap.

The question asked what kind of eyes I have … and Asian was a choice. Too funny. And might be a little racist …

FRIDAY:

Anvil Bar & Refuge

Went with brother and Tammy, and met up with Jenny and her new beau.

Boilermaker [1/2 pint of beer & paired spirit] | $8

It wasn’t bad. But I wouldn’t get this again.

Campari Popcorn | $5

It’s popped to order and Jenny and I were very excited for this … but when we ate a bite we wanted to throw up. Campari is apparently a type of liquor and once you it it you feel your taste buds turn bitter. Bleugh! Brother threw some limes on there and it helped.

Pork Belly Taco, Pickles, Ranch Dressing Cole Slaw | $8

Holy yum … get this whenever you land in anvil. So good. I wish there was more than 3 mini tacos on the plate though.

This place is unique with the way they make their drinks. So many different kinds. I really liked the Montebello (?) Tammy got … I would definitely get that instead next time!

PhotoGrid_1371438356372

88 Boiling Crawfish & Seafood
1910 Wilcrest Dr.
Houston, TX 77042
(713) 789-8288

Boudin, fries, crabs, crawfish, oysters … and so much more. It’s like Boiling Crab but better. Next time I’m getting two pounds of crawfish and boudin. Oh my boudin. They have happy hour in where their crawfish is a dollar off a pound. So amazing. I hope not many people find out about it because I love that it wasn’t packed!

After this we watched The Internship. Such a good funny movie. Go watch it if you haven’t.

SATURDAY:

IMG_20130615_205729

Went shopping at the outlet for forever and spent over $80 … whoops.

Came home and had Korean BBQ as celebration for Father’s Day. Mmm …

IMG_20130615_234504

Oreo Cake … too good.

IMG_20130616_003758

Played The Game of Things with brother, Tammy, and Jenny and her beau came over. Too much laughter. Love this game. We stayed up til 2am playing. We are ridiculous.

SUNDAY:

This place is better than Genghis Grill … in they give you more noodles/rice than GG. Won my heart. I want to go back already.

Brother, Tammy, and Jenny went back to Dallas along with Pluto and Krypto. Now I’m all alone.

Sad life. But love the time I had with them. We ate so much but now that everyone’s gone I’m able to stop eating out as much.

Whoo … long post. Good night.

Howdy Doodies!

You’ll never guess where I am … or maybe you will. Cloud Cafe-ing it up on a Monday is a little different for my schedule but Tammy needed to study so I figured I should come with her. Valid reason …

Sadly there are some teenage kids here playing video games and being super loud and obnoxiously making out once in a while. Grossssssss. And one of them even spilled their whole drink.

Sissy, BIL, and Bruno leave for Oregon tomorrow for their travel nursing job. Eeeps. The house is going to be a little quieter than usual. But at least I’ll still have brother, Tammy, Pluto, and Krypto. Whoa … that’s a mouthful.

I’ve gotten to hang out with my siblings and their significant others all weekend and I love it. But for the reason why we are all together isn’t so great.

Yan-Yan, cousins’ grandma passed away June 1st. We weren’t close but she was there as we grew up and gave us advice whenever we were over at their house. Reading my cousins’ thoughts about their grandma reminds me of the times I had with her. I never knew how much she really did for her family until I read a summary of her life. We know she’s in a better place now. She’s not in anymore pain due to breaking her hip. Nor is she scared anymore due to Alzheimer’s. Rest in peace, Yan-Yan.

Sorry for a downer post on a Monday!

Hope your week goes well!

Tammy Filled Morning

It’s been a busy morning. 4 dogs at the butt crack of waking up … barks galore. *sigh* It also didn’t help upon leaving the house that our window repair guys came … therefore more barking. Oyyy veyy.

IMG_20130607_110449

Tammy and I got ready and got our nails done. You like? We promise the coral-y color is different. Mine is more pink. Tammy’s is more orange! But it obviously doesn’t look that way.

20130607_111433

We also got a Groupon for 59 Diner! And this is only one meal … Yikes! And Tammy’s plate was filled with food as well. Cheap. Delicious. Filling.

I finally got Vine. As of now, you can probably find me as Cripple15 since I didn’t put my name. Do you like it? It’s my first video! And if you don’t like it … well then. Friendship is over.

Our plans are to stay here so she could study for a few more then head back home and hang out with brother, Sissy, and BIL. Love these days.

Till we leave I’ll be reading up on bloggeroonies while watching Season 9 of Grey’s! Happy Friday y’all! Have a great weekend!

Full House Thursday

IMG_20130606_063807

Every day starts fairly the same. A cup of Yogi tea for a daily inspirational quote. Ran out of Kombucha … who wants to restock my stash?

IMG_20130606_094516

Working hard … obviously. But seriously … work was crazy today. Our main water pipe burst so we had to walk to a different building to pee. Also ate lunch with BossMan and another coworker. Was kind of weird at first but it got a little better.

IMG_20130606_174413

Happy Hour with Mallory at:

G Bar
15455 Memorial Drive
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 497-2725

They gave out free ravioli! I got a Guinness (of course) and she got margarita on ice. And the bartender was SUPER nice!

Loved the way the place is set up! Like a living room with a bar! With a fireplace and everything!

The only thing weird was the customers. This one girl seem to look like she was working the place … if you know what I mean.

PhotoGrid_1370573481264

We moved our Happy Hour to:

Cafe Benedicte
15455 Memorial Drive
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 558-6607
www.cafebenedicte.com

and Samantha met up with us.

Bread & Butter | free

Not too sure what was in the butter but my gosh … too good. Garlic perhaps? Must try. Just don’t overdose on it.
The bread itself was hard on the outside and super soft on the inside. YUM.

Hurricanes

Not a fan. Too fruity for me so Samantha took the rest.

Colorado Bulldog

Ordered this instead which is like a White Russian mixed with root beer? Too strong.
Was not a big fan of it either. But liked it better than the Hurricanes.

Lobster Bisque | cup $4.75

Yum. Didn’t care for the lobster pieces inside but the soup. MY GOSH.
Mallory ordered two soups but they were no match for this delicious one.

Gyro [with romaine, tomatoes, and Tzatziki Sauce in Greek pita bread, slow roasted lamb, house fries] | Half $7.95

I didn’t really like the pita bread. So I ate the inside only.
The fries were yummmmmmmm! They’re potatoes. Come on! Of course they’re yum.

I know I’m making it sound like I didn’t like this place but it really wasn’t at all bad. Very expensive if you look at the menu and get the whole meal but I would come here again and try something.

IMG_20130606_212347

Came home to a full house of dogs and people. Brother and Tammy are home for about a week and brought Krypto along. It’s nice to have them here but it would of been better if it wasn’t due to these circumstances. My cousins’ grandma passed away last week and we have a funeral to go to this Saturday.

This picture is of all the dogs waiting patiently for my brother to drop any of the food he’s eating. Too cute.

Watching the Spurs vs Heat game. Go Spurs Go!

And then watching the Redbox movies we rented! Yay!!

Hope y’all had a great Thursday!

Hi Doodies.

I’ve realized I’ve been M.I.A. What’s been going on? Absolutely nothing. NOTHING. Ever since the busy last few weeks I finally got a chance to just relax … and watch Gossip Girl. So here are some updates.

via

As of last week, my foot’s been doing better. I picked a 12 week workout to start on June 1st. Problem? We sold our bench on Sunday so now I have to find a new workout or revise the workout that is already set up. Blimey.

Work’s been going crazy. People not fully doing their part. People stepping on others to get to the top. People talking shiet even if it’s not about me. I can’t deal with it. It takes too much out of me. Stress-freaking-ful.

IMG_20130527_130021

Sissy & BIL are moved back into the house for the time being. Travel nursing starts soon for them. Until then, I enjoy having Bruno around … and I guess those two other fools.

IMG_20130528_203601

Brother let me keep Pluto for the time being. I’m suppose to give him back soon but you know … I kinda like his company. Sorry, B. I have no clue when I’ll be visiting to bring him back to you … because I don’t want to.

Tomorrow night is Wade Bowen with zee friends. Can’t wait to see them. It’s been two week!! Ahhhhh!

Happy Thursday, y’all!

New Year, 2nd Blogoversary

It’s been a whirlwind of a year. Reason I started this blog on New Year’s Day is because I wanted a new start. And because I knew people did recaps every Blogoversary and New Year … and I’m too lazy to do it twice in one year sooooo yep. Here goes!

There has been so much going on this past year and there would be more if I was more consistent with my blogging. It’s been a year of ups and downs but the ups shine through more. I hope you all had a great 2012 because 2013 just begun and it’s going to be a great one!

Stay Positive! Think Good Thoughts!

Christmas Haul

IMG_20121219_160931

Last week we received something from Hong Kong. It was very exciting.

IMG_20121220_065216

Gifts from the coworkers. I also got a Christmas Card from one of my coworkers. Her family is so cutes.

IMG_20121219_213758

I went and sent a few cards for some friends because I LOVE snail mail. Nothing special. Just wanted to let them know I was thinking of them. I wanted to send more out but didn’t have addresses or time.

And now the presents from the fams! I’m not boasting or anything. Just wanted to keep a memory of the things I got this year!

Mum:

20121222_21473020121222_214804

Popcorn kernels for my popcorn machine!! Yippee!! My brother’s been bugging me to make some for him but I haven’t. Whoops.

She also gave me an Estee Lauder makeup/clutch thing with some makeup samples inside that goes with Pleasure.

Dad:

20121222_214824

My dad does this game where we choose numbers which indicates a different envelopes that has different amounts of money inside. I won the jackpot this year! Yippee!! I use to win the $5 or $10! 🙂

June:

20121222_214700

I got an art set! I am TOO excited. I haven’t opened up because everything is so perfect right now. Do you get that way? Ah … cannot wait. Hopefully I make some smoking a** things!

Sissy & Brett:

 20121222_214707IMG_20121227_190053

My favorite … a You Curl Iron! I never knew how to curl my hair. Partly because I don’t want to damage my hair or burn myself but this seriously makes everything so easy! I think everyone should get one because it’s just so simple and fast and makes some bomb diggity curls! That’s my first time curling. Love it or hate it?

I’ve been practicing every day … aka killing my hair.

IMG_20121223_234828

Pumpkin Butter & Cookie Butter. It’s so perfect I haven’t even opened it yet. I haven’t tried them before but she knew I wanted to. I was beyond excited when I tore opened my package. What shall I eat with these lovelies?

Brother:

He gave me his computer monitor during Thanksgiving and that is part of my Christmas and birthday present. Hence no pictures in case y’all were wondering. 🙂

Tammy:

20121222_214754

Candles for my stanky room! The vanilla cupcake smells like heaven. I’m hurrying up with my old candle so I can pop one of these open! Eeep!

Jenny:

20121222_21481820121222_214743

A 2013 calendar. I already have a planner so I’m debating what to do with this one. Any ideas? I really do love it but I’m not sure what to do with it.

She also got me a egg maker thingie that makes eggs in a shape of a heart. I think I can use it with pancake batter too. Hmm … 😉

Alyssa & Greg:

2012-12-27-23-00-03_deco

So I just got this a yesterday but I love it. Anything that comes through snail mail wins my heart. That might answer the reason why I do online shopping so much. Anyway, it’s great hearing from her and I really do miss her. I cannot wait till she and her husband (ah we’re too grown up!) are back in Houston!

The weekend is here and work couldn’t have gone any slower these past few days.

I got the 31st off but I’m debating if I should go in or not … leaning towards not but who knows what’ll happen.

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Labor Day Weekend

I had an amazing Labor Day Weekend. Four days worth. What’s not to love.

Thursday:

20120830_181036(0)

I went to Happy Hour at The King’s Head Pub with the team. Partly because Katherine M. was leaving. Therefore we had cake. Tres Leche to be exact. It was very wet …

20120830_18131720120830_18320720120830_185607

Along with two Guinnesses and a shot of tequila. Yum. Oh and a tiny slice of pizza. The team was pretty quiet and tame. We made small conversations but boy was I wrong. We’ll get to that.

20120830_195902

But first, I left to meet up with Amanda at Chatter’s. I hadn’t seen her in awhile and it was GREAT catching up. We don’t skip a beat and started up where we left off. Those are always the best friendships. I got the Chatter Burger but only ate the insides of the burger. No carbs please. Ha jk. It’s because they slathered way too much of their Chatter’s spread. The fries were amazing though. Crunchy on the outside, mushy on the inside. Yum!

We said our goodbyes then I headed back to The King’s Head Pub to meet up with the team. Upon entering, they scream out my first and last name and start whooping. I kid you not. Everyone was pretty tipsy … or drunk. Yep. Those are the people I work with.

20120830_232922

They finished up their drinks and we headed to Midnight Rodeo. It’s my first time going to a club in Houston and I must say, it was pretty fun. There wasn’t much people at first since the games were on but later on the night there were a lot more. We made our own fun. Loved it. It was chill. Just how it should be!

Friday:

20120831_125833

I’ve been having college life withdraws so June and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings. We ordered 50 wings and a basket of wedges. Yep. We only ate 20 wings total and took the rest home for Mum and Dad.

Dear College Life, I miss you. Staying out late. Studying (sometimes). FTK. FSA. And the people.

Saturday:

Mum, Dad, June, Rocky and I went and picked up Sissy, Brett, and Bruno and we made our way to Dallas. Had lunch at Suma Veggie Cafe with Brother, Tammy, and Jenny.

20120901_135648

Then we went doggie hunting. I found the one I want!! He’s sleeping while his momma is chilling. Sadly he isn’t available til the 23rd. And he’s too small for me to take care of with my work schedule and all.

20120901_20481320120901_211313

20120901_20513820120901_205145

Brother and June went with Sissy, Brett, and Bruno to take some engagement pictures. Some of them came out pretty well! So excited! Then we went to dinner with Tammy’s family at Lucky City. They let you bring your own wine so we got a little crazy! I’m starting to like wine. Eeep! Sonic for dessert then we called it a night.

Sunday:

IMG_20120903_205817

20120902_10433420120902_111003

We woke up bright and early for the Arboretum. More engagement pictures to be taken. And they had a lot of cool glass sculptures!

photo (1)photo (3)

We went to Pappasito’s afterward and upon coming back to Brother’s place and found out Rocky tore the shit out of the carpet. That’ll be him knowning he’s in trouble and in time out. He stays there til we tell him he’s good to go. We think he only did that because Bruno was in the other room and it is a new place and he’s not use to it. Oh well. Brother had to go out and buy new carpet but couldn’t find any to match. Sad.

IMG_20120902_190547

On the way home, I caught this little beauty.

Monday:

IMG_20120903_212243

Didn’t do much but buy a new keyboard and mouse … wireless! I’m loving it. Oh and forgot to mention, Brother gave me his old computer that he built. So now I have a desktop AND a laptop! Happy camper. This post is written on my new computer!! I baked M&M Blondies for my old and new team. But something happened to the first batch so I only have one. Hopefully not everyone eats it.

Labor Day weekend has been pretty eventful. Nothing’s topped it so far.

4 day work week! Whooo! I got this!

Excuses Excuses

I love that having a blog, you don’t have to make timely posts. Obviously as you can tell I haven’t the past couple days. And after today, I probably won’t be able to post anything until Monday. That could include reading posts as well.

I’m going to go up to Dallas for some family time and I am so excited because we haven’t been together since May when I graduated and my brother graduated.

Don’t worry though. I’ll do recaps of last nights fun festivities along with this weekend’s once I get back from Dallas. Whoo … thank goodness for 4 day weekends!

Until then, have a great Labor Day weekend!

On The Outside Looking In

If you’re a follower of Alex’s blog, this might sound familiar. I had this written to post on the special day but she beat me to the punch! We are so alike!

It’s a long post so it’s okay if you skip it and only read the memes but if you read it all, I’ll send you a virtual cookie.

Today’s the first day of classes for my Alma Mater. It’s kind of bizarre not going back to school after being in it for forever. Everyone’s reunited and it’s so strange that I am not. Some people love work more but I miss those last couple years of college. That’s when I found people I actually felt comfortable being myself around. Maybe this will change after a few more months but for now, that’s how it feels to me.

I’ve been told I get along with everyone. Walking down the halls or through campus, I would see someone I know or they would see me and we would exchanges “hellos” to the point where I was dubbed “popular”.

They cannot be more wrong.

source

If y’all don’t know by now, I immigrated from Hong Kong so in pre-school, I didn’t understand English. But was able to still make friends. I guess when you’re a kid all you had to do was share crayons.

When elementary came, still not fully understanding English, kids jumped at the chance to be my friend. Maybe because they’ve never seen a little Chinese girl before? I don’t know.

It’s weird how it happened as well. All the cool kids were in another classroom yet I got along with them during lunch, recess, and arts. Guess sharing your jump rope with the girls and playing basketball with the boys helped, too.

I still felt like an outsider though since the lack of English puts you in a barrier.

source

After 4th grade, my parents told me I get to finish 5th before moving to somewhere else in Houston. But shit happens and I didn’t get to do my 5th grade with my friends I grew up with. I didn’t get to say goodbye. I lost them all.

It was hard making new friends at a new place going into 5th grade when everyone already had their own friends. I got really shy but met Manvi on the bus and we became instant best friends. We even had best friend gems. We’re not best friends anymore but for some reason, we both still have our gems and talk about it whenever we bump into one another. I met some of her friends and made some of my own.

After elementary ended, my cousin, Timothy who was in the same grade as me, told me I hung out with the popular kids and was surprised. Really? … Uh … Okay.

Middle school happened. More than half the people from 5th grade went to a different middle school so I had to yet again make new friends. I got even more shy. I didn’t talk a lot in and out of class except for orchestra since Timothy and my brother were in that class with me but I got along with everyone and would know anyone that walked down the hall. I had classes with some football players, basketball players, cheerleaders, etc. and we got along well. But I was still reserved.

I was told I was friends with the populars. So why didn’t I feel that way? I still felt like the awkward kid.

source

High school came and less than 1/4th of my middle school went to my high school. Everyone else went to the high school that was 3 minutes away from my house. Sometimes school districts suck at zoning. My commute was 10 minutes to school … and that’s without traffic.

Shy yet again I kept to myself most of the time but as the days went on, I started making new friends naturally. Being in basketball and orchestra helped a lot. Sophomore year I broke through my shell and got all crazy and met a lot of people . Everyone seemed to know me. Yet I still didn’t feel like I fit in. But people who walked with me felt I was because I knew anyone I passed by in the halls.

When I finally thought I found some great friends who I never want to leave, college came. We all went to different colleges and it got kind of hard to keep in touch. Even with Facebook, things were different. If someone doesn’t want to make the effort, it doesn’t work. I’m still friends with some of them and they are now my bestest. I would not change that for the world.

It took a while but I started to make friends in college. Went through many of them if you ask me. College is a place you grow and find yourself … some people never grew up and I didn’t want to stay through the immaturity.

source

Throughout all those years, I never felt I fit in no matter how much I tried with whatever group I was in. I was told I was “popular” but I felt like the kid from the outside looking in. I was never in the “in” crowd. I was never popular. I just knew a lot of people. That is all.

I never felt like I fit in until the end of college. I found people in my life I could finally be myself (other than the ones I could obviously before) because they believed in the same things as me and didn’t care how weird I was, I hope.

Now I’m at my new job trying hard to stay in touch with them. But it’s hard when they don’t reciprocate. It’s even harder to make friends now because all you do is work. Hopefully some workers become my real life friends but that’s unlikely.

I’m thankful for the friends that text me or message me or email me through the weeks … it makes work more bearable and shows that they care. I’m actually grateful that I’m reconnecting with some of my good friends from high school. It feels great. I’m not sure where it’s going but I hope they’re here to stay.

source

I’m glad I got over the phase of trying to fit in because no matter where I’m at, I know I have the bestest.

Price texted me the other day that he’s too busy working and getting his MBA to make friends and stay in touch with them. My response? I’ve been through that. All through high school and college. So I learned.

To me, if they really truly are your friends, no matter how long you’ve been distant, they’ll always be there because they know you’re working towards your future that defines the rest of your life. Real friends will always be your friend. No matter how long. It’s that simple.

With Price it’s been 6 years give or take and we can still hold a conversation when I saw him again at Alyssa’s wedding.

Same goes with blogger friends. I’m always here for y’all! Even if we never met. Winking smile

That’s the end of my reflection. Hope you all have a great hump day! And for those starting school today or have school, hope it went well. Enjoy it while you can!

P.S. If you were wondering, Manvi went to all the same schools as me … even college. Bizarre, right? We’re not close anymore but it’s always nice when we see each other.
