Family Weekend

Much needed, relaxing weekend. I did nothing but hang out with family which sometimes is needed. We went shopping at the outlet where I only bought a top from The Loft for only $7! And we watched Pitch Perfect and Safe Haven. For me the billionth time but they’re both such good movies. *sigh*

I’ve been busy going through the big stack of magazines that’s been sitting on the corner of my desk for months. Whenever I want to save a recipe or article, I try to see if I can find it online, else I’ll take a picture of it and whatnot to keep … forever … until the internet dies. Or something. Thank you, Evernote.

Sissy got into a car accident yesterday and totaled her car. From the story she told me, it’s a miracle she walked away without a scratch. She pretty much got t-boned and she flipped and slid upside down all the way down the street. M-I-R-A-C-L-E. Glad she’s okay. That’s all that matters.

If she was in Houston right now, she would love eating the few dark chocolate covered graham crackers I made. YUM. Wish I had better brand of graham crackers and dark chocolate though. They definitely make a big difference.

Back to my relaxing rest of the weekend. Then I’ll have 3 days of work and a 4 day weekend to follow. Cannot wait! Yippee!

I don’t think I’ve been this happy in a long time. Since high school I felt like everything has been falling apart. But now that I’ve grown and found out that there are some amazing people around me and opened up to them, I feel happier. Everything is even going my way … mostly. And it’s just … great. So great that sometimes you know something horrible will happen … and it did.

I got into a car accident Wednesday night. Unexpectedly. It was all the other person’s fault and he admitted to it. Bumper to bumper. My car is perfectly fine … just a little scratch but my whole body feels like I’ve been hit by the car itself. Don’t worry. Plans to go to the doctor is tomorrow. Oh and I’m okay.

I drove to Katy this morning to make it to Nicole’s Bridal Shower. First real official bridal shower. All the other ones were just friends getting together and stuff. I love my girls and their family. It just feels right. I feel like I belong … finally.

Here is a plethora of pictures from these past few days. Enjoy.

After an interview with a company in Houston, I went to go buy a present for the Bride-to-Be, Nicole. My face of, I don’t know how this works. There are too many things on the list. But I figured it out and it was kind of fun! (Oh and the interview? Let’s just say, I’ll be a grown up soon enough! Winking smile)

Study hard for tests! Glad this will all be over soon!

With Jakob and Andy. It was Andy’s birthday. But he doesn’t celebrate birthdays. So we went out to eat with a big group of people then the three of us and Marisol went to Kona Grill and had Sake Bombs! Since it was his 21st, we had to go all out! So much laughter. So much memories.

With Jakob in my chinky moment.

May 2, 2012
With Christina, Apurva, Carl, and Andy in the FTK room. Just having a fun time taking random pictures on the Mac. It feels great not having to worry as much about finals as everyone else. Senior status. Open-mouthed smile

Jenny brought home Roc. Roc is Jenny’s friend’s dog. He’s been staying with us the past few days. Such a chill beagle mixture!

May 5, 2012
At Nicole’s Bridal Shower. Country Western Themed. Cute little snacks. There were even cowboy hat cookies, delicious punch, strawberries with whipped cream, etc. I just didn’t get a picture of everything because I just wanted to pig out!

May 5, 2012
With Nicole, Bride-to-Be. I love her! Don’t mind me. I just drove three hours to come to the party and I didn’t have time to fix myself up.

With Nicole, Stephanie, and Michelle. Pretty much all the girls I ever hang out with from back in the high school days. I love them so much! No matter how far apart we all were from one another, Nicole – Texas Tech, Stephanie – University of Texas, Michelle – University of Houston, Me – University of Texas at San Antonio, we were able to stay friends and keep that bond.

Think Good Thoughts: Being Alive

My dad was in a car accident Tuesday. The car is totaled but that’s okay because he’s okay. He’s up and about so I’m not worried. I don’t know how I would react if something actually happened to him. I am thankful he is alive and well and that I can still speak to him.

I am thankful that five friends that were in accidents today are okay and well. They were all separate occasions at different places in Texas. Please drive safe guys. I don’t want to lose anyone anymore.

I am thankful for those I’ve met in FTK. Obviously there are sometimes people you cannot get along with or they are just horrible people that you don’t want to associate yourself with them. But luckily I’ve found some keepers that I would want in my life forever. Even when I graduate. Hopefully that does happen because we all know how terrible I am at keeping in touch when my life gets busy.

There are only a few people I still keep in touch with in FSA. I am thankful for them because they know me even though I’m not there. I cannot wait until sport practices start and dance practices start. I cannot wait to see everyone.

I wouldn’t be who I am today without some of these people in my life. I am thankful for the life I live for at any second, it can be taken away. With everything that goes on around us, we forget that living is a privilege.

We always take life for granted. And think we’re invincible. But a story I just read and a video I just watched put everything in a new perspective for me. I’m grateful for my life. The fact that I *knock on wood* haven’t been severely injured. And a loving family and friends by my side. Shelter and food. My own car to get around in. Etc. Etc. The story made me realize that I have it good (well?) for the most part. Much more than a lot of other people in the world. I will try more to appreciate the little things and complain a lot less. Here’s the story paraphrased by what I read:

Meet Madeline Mitchell. She was a contestant for the Miss Alabama USA pageant but going home one day in September 2008 changed everything. She hit a deer and lost control of her car causing her to go off a 40 foot ravine while the car caught on fire.

She wouldn’t have been alive today if it wasn’t for the Walmart truck driver, Gary Lewellen. He went in to put the fire out and reassured her she would be okay. And sure enough, she was air-lifted to the University of Alabama hospital.

For 12 days, she was stuck in a coma while her parents watched over her. When she woke up, her question was “Am I going to be able to compete in the pageant?

Doctors told her she may never walk again since her leg was broken in 12 places, broken ribs, etc. And people told her should would never be able to compete again due to her many scars.

But she proved them wrong. After months of struggling, she indeed walked again and participated in 2009 Miss Alabama USA pageant but failed to make top 10. She didn’t let that stop her and continued to participate last year and won.

This Sunday she will be competing in the Miss USA at the Miss USA 2011 pageant in Las Vegas. Go here for a more in-depth story and a heartwarming, tear-jerking video of her interview.

I know a lot of people think beauty pageant contestants are jerks, high maintanence, rich snobs, etc. etct. but after watching this I realized they are just like us. Real people. And they are not invincible … no matter how put together they are. I’m not going to lie. I always wished I was in a beauty pageant because they are so pretty!

Take time out of your day to appreciate everything you have.
