Not Just Any Other Workday

My work had a crawfish boil today. They blocked out 12-4pm for us so we could enjoy crawfish, burgers, and whatnot. We drove to a park where they hired people to cook for us. Look at that giant pot hitched to the back of a truck. That’s how we do it in Texas …

Pile of critters. It was great getting to mingle with people outside of my team and talk to those that we work with but rarely see. When 1:30pm hit, everyone was practically done. Bossman told us to get the eff out and don’t return to the office. Um … ksweet.

Zuco and I had plans to go shopping but being able to go earlier and get done earlier … score! Look at all her bags of goodies!!

This was one of the only things I bought. (The other was eyeliner.)

Original price: $69.99.
Clearance: $50.
Birthday Month: $10 off.

Wayyyy cheaper than it should be. Great to wear to workkkkkkkkk!

Got my free birthday gift from Sephora! I thought it was funny they made a video but it’s cute and so thoughtful. I looooooooove Benefit a lot so it was a perfect match!!

When I saw this on my feed after shopping, I about had a heart attack. Someone actually reads my blog … and remembers something from it! Shout out to the amazing Rachael from Happy Healthy Runner. Love her! She has found my spot!

Plus on top of all that, I got a call from the lovely Samantha who I haven’t seen in a while. She wanted to tell me she found an apartment with an extra room aka the study. Pretty much saying I have a place to stay if I ever want to just get away from home or sleepover. Great friend who thinks about me. Love her to death.

Sorry for the jumbled mess of a blog post. I have to get ready for my Skype date with the lovely Patricia and hopefully Gary and Shayna.

No lies. I’ve been lazy since the 18 hour Dance Marathon. I’ll update on it soon along with some happenings this week. I just need to take a break for a little. Hope you understand. I will catch up on Google Reader soon. Still looking for an alternative Google Reader. Eeps.

Rachael is having a tshirt giveaway (2 to be exact). Go enter here!! She’s amazing sooo you don’t want to miss this!

I found this online on Pinterest. If you have the correct linkage to this, I will definitely link it to the right place.

Anyway, is this true boys? Do y’all feel this way?

[2013] 011/365: And Liebster Award Goes To …

A few months ago, I took Mum to Whole Foods so she can see why I love quinoa so much. She got hooked and made her first batch today! Ah happy day. It was delicious. I was asked a few days ago what quinoa tastes like … but I have no clue how to describe it. Anyone have a proper description of the taste?

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by a gorgeous girl who’s a Texan like me! Everyone meet Blake from Steady Three Sixty and send her some love! If I get nominated every time, best bet I’ll do them all the best I can. These are so fun to me!! Thanks, Blake!

1. Link back to the person who nominated you
2. Write 11 facts about yourself once nominated
3. Answer 11 questions from the person who nominated you
4. Come up with 11 question for the 11 people you nominate

  1. One of the best things ever created: sporks. I want a real stainless steal one that works REALLY well. I would use it ALL THE TIME. Remember Wall-E trying to figure out where to put his spork? Teehee so cute!
  2. I’ve been told I’m “too nice”. I like to believe everyone’s good and they don’t have some kind of ulterior motive. Sometimes that backfires. If you’re honest and loyal to me, I will be one of the bestest friends you’ll ever have. (Not to toot my own horn or anything.)
  3. Speaking of loyalty and honesty, I have trust issues. I’m very cautious in opening up. And once you break that trust, adios.
  4. I’ve only truly liked three wines and I don’t know the name to any of them. Therefore, I’m still on the hunt for my favorite wine.
  5. If someone’s talking and it’s a few words put together that reminds me of a song, I start singing or humming it.
  6. I’ve been told I’m picky with guys and that’s why I’m single. I’d like to believe that’s false. No one likes a fat girl.
  7. My all time favorite song is Scars by Papa Roach. I can relate to that song since it’s been out.
  8. One of my favorite pastimes is watching Chinese Drama. They’re sometimes cheesy and have bad actors but I love them. Keeps me in touch with where I came from.
  9. I dislike feet. Keep them to yourself.
  10. I wish I was a real singer/songwriter. I don’t care if I was sell-out-a-stadium famous. I’d just want to do it for the fun of it and meet amazing people along the way.
  11. I sleep with 7 pillows and three blankets. I don’t sleep ON all 7 pillows and definitely don’t cover myself with 3 blankets. I just like to be cradled by softness.

  1. Do you have tattoos? If so, what is your latest one? If not, would you ever get one? What would it be? I don’t have a tattoo, but it’ll be cool to get a sibling tattoo. Not sure what it’ll be though. If one for just myself, possibly a bow tattoo. I love bows. They’re so cute!
  2. Would you rather cut your hair to the tops of your ears or not shave your legs for six months? Not shave my legs. My leg hairs don’t grow out that fast. Plus, I can just wear pants/jeans! If I cut my hair that short, I’d look like a fat boy.
  3. What is your favorite month of the year? I’ve never really thought about it. I guess I’d say May since it’s my birthday month … and if I was still in college, it means summer break.
  4. If you could only drink water and one other liquid for the rest of your life, what other drink would you choose? Tea. Tea. Tea. Hot tea to be exact.
  5. What is one of your goals you hope to achieve by 2014? Pay off more than half my loans! Lose a few billion pounds. Check out my 2013 resolutions.
  6. What is a TV show that your parents didn’t let you watch when you were little, but you watched it anyway behind their backs? Tom & Jerry. Mum said it was to violent … which it kind of is if you think about it. It worked wonderfully … Brother and I would turn the sound off (since they never talk anyway).
  7. What does your dream house look like? I don’t really have a dream house. I think it’s because I’m not ready to settle down – no boyfriend or anything. Maybe a townhouse/apartment for now. But I would love to decorate it all pretty. Pinterest has been helping me out with that.
  8. If someone paid you ten dollars every day you left the house without any makeup on, how many days would you go out without makeup? I can go forever without makeup. I love makeup. I collect ‘em. But I’ll be fine never having to wear it. So I guess I’d be so rich. Who wants to pay me? I’ll definitely finish paying off my loans easily.
  9. Tell us a story about how you embarrassed yourself in front of your crush in high school. If you don’t have one to tell, describe what would have been the most embarrassing thing to happen. In Orchestra, we usually climb up the cabinets (used to put string instruments) to put up posters on the wall. We tend to jump off after we’re done … I slipped and hit my head on the adjacent cabinet and fell on my ass.
  10. If your job asked you to relocate to the middle of nowhere, would you happily go? Does the middle of nowhere imply there are no people or stores around? If so, probably not. But if it’s like Midland, Texas or something of that sort, yeah of course. They pay so much better too!
  11. What is your favorite thing about the summer season? When I was in college, I’d say the break. Being able to not go to school daily. Now I kind of wished I did. Hmm … Sundress. I don’t wear them much but they’re so cute.

  1. If you can live anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?
  2. Describe your dream job.
  3. What is your favorite part of your body and why?
  4. If you can only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  5. What has been the most difficult thing you had to forgive?
  6. If you can have lunch with any 3 people past or present, who would it be and why? What would y’all eat?
  7. What’s your favorite TV show and/or movie?
  8. What’s something you’d tell your 16 year old self?
  9. If you can change ONE thing in your life, what would it be and why?
  10. Describe your most embarrassing moment.
  11. If anything, good or bad happened, who would you tell first?

I understand if y’all don’t do this but it’d sure be nice to learn more about y’all!

My First Ever Guest Post

I don’t have anything interesting to blog about today other than my T-Mobile is having problems with Data so that means I’m doing everything over WiFi. Can you say hassle?

But it works out fine because my first ever Guest Post have been published at Rachael’s blog, Happy Healthy Runner. Go check it out! I had fun writing it so I hope y’all enjoy it! She is the sweetest ever and like I’ve told her before, she resembles Kate Hudson. 😉

The week’s almost over guys. Keep holding on!

How Are You Related To Your Cousin’s Kid?

I’m not sure if I mentioned this but Sissy brought up me playing the guitar and singing a song at their wedding. I’m not sure if she’s joking or not but it was pretty nice for her to say that. Then Mum and I went all crazy looking up songs. Let’s just say, my fingers have been back to it’s usual callus state. Mmm sounds delicious, right? What boy would want to hold my hand now?

Joking or not, one of my usual passtime is playing the guitar and singing but I haven’t done much of that lately. So I’m pretty sure I burned A LOT of calories doing so today. I’ve got down “Remind Me” by Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood and I would like to think I sound good. Both boy and girl part. But of course, you always think you sound better than you really do …

I just did my FIRST EVER POP Pilates by Cassey Ho. (Check her out at Blogilates!) And I’m in love. I’ve always loved Pilates when I first did it in Junior High. My then Coach just had a baby and wanted to get rid of her excess weight so she made all of us do it with her. It’s so simple and not so bad for those with injuries.

But POP Pilates is so different compared to the regular Pilates. This one is more upbeat, at least this one that I did today. And not good if someone has injuries or is prone to injuries. Let’s just say work is going to be tiring because I am certain I will not be able to walk or lift my fingers and my job involves a computer and typing all day. Joy! At least I don’t have to walk much.

I’m happy I played the guitar before this … burn, baby, burn.

Speaking of work we had a big debate and if you’d like, you can share your answer.

I tweeted about it:

And here’s two replies I saved out of a few:

Rachael from Happy Healthy Run and one of my friends.

The majority of people at work says nephew/niece while some said second cousin. And we’ve come to a conclusion, everyone other than THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA says that when your cousin has a kid, they are your second cousins while everyone else in the entire world says it’s your nephew/niece. Funny, huh? Guess it’s a cultural thing.

Or maybe the Americans are just plain wrong. Smile with tongue out Oh and the whole cousin once removed stuff is just confusing. And a little depressing if you ask me. It makes it sound like they are strangers or you don’t like them.

It was a fun debate to ease into the work week which luckily is only 4 days total for me!

What do you think? Is your cousin’s kid your second cousin or your nephew/niece?

Guest Post: Tips for Staying Healthy on Vacation

I knew I would have so much fun in Hong Kong so before I left, I asked Rachael to write a guest post on anything she wanted and … she agreed! Her tips below are on point and I’ve been *trying* to keep up with them. I’m happy to report, so far so good. Thanks, Rachael! I love your blog and you motivate me every day and I’m happy that you are my first ever guest poster. If you aren’t already following her … you’re missing out!

And to all of Rachael’s readers … hi. Thank you for stopping by and I hope that we can become friends! Leave a comment so I can check out your blog! Winking smile

Hello Mouthwatering Morsel readers! I’m Rachael and I blog over at Happy Healthy Runner about running, being (mostly) healthy, and my adventures in marriage. I’ve been a longtime reader of Melissa’s blog, so naturally I was thrilled when she asked me to guest post for her while she’s off being a world traveler.

Since Melissa is going on vacation I figured what better thing to talk about then being healthy on vacation?! I mean, that’s what everyone thinks about when they’re traveling, right? How best to stay in shape? Just me?

If you had told me five years ago that it was possible to go on vacation, indulge, and not gain weight I would have laughed at you. However after two week-long trips to Vegas where I’ve managed to do just that, I can say with complete confidence it is possible. It just takes a *teensy* bit of work.

1. Bring workout clothes with you: Pretty basic stuff here: If you have them, there’s no excuse not to use them. So bring a couple changes of workout clothes and your shoes and hop to it!

2. Make time for exercise: Any exercise is better than no exercise. I’ve found that waking up an hour or so before everyone else so that I can hit up the hotel gym, do some bodyweight exercises in my room, or take a jog around the area I’m visiting is the perfect way to sneak in exercise without it cutting into my sight-seeing time. Plus, push-ups, crunches, squats, lunges, and all of those classic exercise moves can be done with zero equipment.

3. Choose cheat meals wisely: I love food. I mean LOVE food. But I also understand that there are times to indulge and times not to. If breakfast and lunch are going to be eaten on the go choose something light and filling, such as oatmeal with fresh fruit, a salad, or a turkey sandwich. That way if you’re going somewhere awesome for dinner you can indulge guilt-free. If brunch is the main meal of the day then indulge then and make sure your other meals are healthier.

4. Drink water obsessively: One place that people trip up a lot is with their beverage choices, especially on vacation. At least I do, so I assume everyone else struggles with that too. 😉 Instead of ordering sodas and other drinks that are loaded with sugar opt for water instead. And if you’re going out at night have a glass of water after every alcoholic drink. It’ll keep you hydrated, minimize the hangover in the morning, and help you pace your drinking.

5. Split calorie-heavy meals and desserts: Half the fun of being on vacation is all of the good food, right? Instead of skipping out on all of it, split it with a friend or family member instead. That way you still get to enjoy it, but you have a much lesser chance of overdoing it.

Doing these things has completely changed the way vacations go for me, and hopefully they will for you too! A big thanks to Melissa for letting me take over her blog for a bit, and I hope you all have happy, healthy travels!

Farewell To Old Friends …

Let’s raise a glass to the bitter end
Farewell to old friends
Will you be the same when we see you again

-Dixie Chicks, Bitter End

I had last Friday off so the sissy and I spent some time together. We went to eat at Cheddar’s then Walmart to buy some things.

Then we came home and she wanted a new profile picture for her Facebook so we took a bunch.

Here is one of many. I’m well aware our family lives in like the freaking jungle. So many plants that you can’t even see in our backyard.

Then I went out to celebrate Nicole getting her first job ever!! A teaching job right here in Katy! So proud of her. Nicole, Michelle, Rachael, and I met at Otis (?) first because Rachael was hungry.

Then Nicole, Michelle, and I headed to Baker’s Street.

on the way to see the girls

my first Black Tire (Guiness and Flat Tire!)

So dang freaking delicious.

We talked about a lot of things which will leave me scarred for a little while. I can’t share the details because they’re all personal but … let’s just say I’m educated. If you can guess what we talked about I’ll give you a cookie.

Today was a sad day. It was my farewell party. One summer has passed and it was time to move on to my last year of college.

My team here do it B-I-G. An invite to everyone on the team or anyone I might know to come to my party. Cake, gift giving, and speeches.

The remainder of the cake that they made me take home. It was a chocolate/vanilla marble cake. The flowers look blue but it was actually purple. Preeety! There were two more flowers at the bottom but two of the men boys swiped them because they love frosting. Weirdos. It’s kinda cute.

Free cake … come and get it.

Cute little gift bag. $25 gift card and twix bar. Cute little card. Signatures.

I felt very loved. So dang shy and kept saying “Thank you.”

I am very blessed to have worked with them for 5 summers and one winter. It has been a great experience.

I ran home and had my phone conference with FTK. I am so excited for this year. It is going to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

To give thanks to the co-workers, I went to H-E-B to buy some ingredients. I just finished making two desserts to bring tomorrow. I’ll share with you the recipes soon!

Going off to blog read and Prison Break.

One day of work left then my one week of summer starts.
