Pacific Northwest Open Face Omelete [a bed of sour cream & home fries topped with portobellos, spinach, tomatoes, & green onions, feta and cheddar cheese served with cheese grits, toast, or biscuit]

So huge. That was our first reaction when the plates landed on our table. So worth the money however much it cost … because I don’t remember.

I didn’t eat the toast like usual. My mum ate that. I scrapped some of the cheese off. But yes, it was so good. Portobellos and spinach makes me happy.

Later that night we went to:

Charles Vergo’s Rendezvous
52 South 2nd Street
Memphis, Tennessee
(901) 523-2746

Rendezvous Special [ham, cheese, salami, sausage, pickles, peppers] | $12.95

Weird … I am sure we ordered that but I don’t see any ham, salami, or cheese? Maybe it’s in there and I am just blind.

Too salty. I kept chugging water and kept thinking to myself, “I hope my ribs don’t taste this way either.”

World Famous Rendezvous Charcoal Broiled Pork Ribs [served with beans and slaw – full order] | $18.75

But I was wrong. It was salty.

I mean, I know Memphis is known for their ribs and dry rub but … geebus! I tried scraping parts of the rub off. Thank goodness I was sharing this with my mum else I think I would have had  a salt overload.

The beans were really good though! My mum and I fought over who gets to eat more. But luckily my dad doesn’t really like beans and gave us his. Thanks dad!

The coleslaw was a little dry. I remember none of us ate our coleslaw.

I know this place is very famous but I don’t think I would come here again because of the saltiness. I felt very bloated on the long drive we had. Disappointed smile

Whitfield’s Restaurant and Bar

The family Spring Break trip’s most fanciest meal.

Free Bread

The bread was very delicious but because I wanted to save my tummy for the appetizers and main meal.

Their butter was different. It was mixed with other things.

Korean BBQ Lettuce Wraps [with jicama and apple slaw] | $8

Yum. I love anything wrapped in lettuce … lettuce wraps. The jicama was so so but the meat was so juicy. $8 for three measly lettuce wraps sounds a bit costly so if I was ever to come back here, I think I’d pass.

Buttermilk Fried Oysters [Polenta sweet corn cake, roasted corn salsa topped with Meyer lemon aioli] | $11.50

Mmm … THE BEST appetizer out of all the ones we tried. Our family LOVES oysters and fried in polenta sweet corn cake … even better. I think if they just served polenta it would be great. I love polenta.

Fried Green Tomatoes [Parmesan and panko crusted, housemade mozzarella, pickled red onion and red pepper coulis] | $8.50

I’ve always wanted to try fried green tomatoes. And finally I got to try it. It wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. But if you eat it together with the mozzarella it gives it a different taste. Since we were sharing I accidentally got the green tomato but it was still good. I don’t think I would want to waste money on fried green tomatoes in the future though.

Corn and Crab Chowder [rich and creamy corn broth finished with lump crab and roasted corn] | $9

A lot of places tend to skimp on the crab.  But they were very lenient. Every bite I pretty much had crab. Worth the money.

I was already full during this point but … my main meal!

Shepherd’s Pie [braised Painted Hills top sirloin with winter vegetables and a savory pan sauce topped with sour cream mashed potatoes] | $18

Oh geebus. Loads of meat and potatoes. I loved it. My mum thought it tasted a little “sour” I only ate four of those squares. The rest I had to give to my dad. Too filling.

Trio of Seasonal Brulees | $8

Tammy loves Crème Brule so we ordered this for dessert – which our family rarely do. If I remember correctly it was Cinnamon Crème Brule, Mint Crème Brule, and Regular Crème Brule. I’m not a fan of mint desserts unless it’s in chocolate but this Mint Crème Brule was the best out of the three.

The ambience is very romantic. Very dim lights. We had to take out our cellphones to read the menu. Maybe turn up the lights a little or light up a little more candles …

I would come here again … when I make some money and find a significant other to go with.

During my Spring Break trip with the family, we went to various food places. I am only mentioning a few of the places we went to eat because they were either famous or local.

First up:

1104 Locust Street
Saint Louis, Missouri 63102
(314) 241-8118

2012-03-11 11.07.55

#4 Breakfast Scramble [3 eggs served over potatoes, zucchini, roasted tomato, red onion, garlic, spinach, and mushrooms] | $9.50

It looks little and it looks like it won’t fill you up but you are so wrong if that’s what you believe. The potatoes filled me up very fast. It felt very big to me halfway through.

A plus, it was not salty. A lot of places put so much salt and pepper on their food but this place was amazing at everything.

2012-03-11 11.21.45

We asked for hot sauce … and we got Asian hot sauce. Racist much? We were wanting Tobasco thank you very much.

2012-03-11 11.31.48

Nutella Sweet Crepe [with strawberry] | $7.95

Tammy and I were eyeing the crepes. I’m not a sweets person but they are known for it so we just had to try it.

Sweet crepe for sure. They piled on the Nutella which was surprising because they usually don’t give a lot of Nutella at other places. The strawberries were very ripe and sweet.

This place was very delicious. There was a wait but not long. And while you are waiting you can go and get coffee … for free!

The only complaint I have is the cups. They were not washed well and had a lot of leftover coffee in it. Or maybe the cups are so old that there were lots of coffee stains in the cup. When I looked at it, it made me want to throw up.

Other than that, I would recommend you go and try it out.

I know I keep saying I have new places to blog about but I’m being serious. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. You know, with the whole packing up five years of my life here in college, saying bye to everyone, and moving back home to work full time for the rest of my life – it’s a lot for a girl to take.

Graduation? Check! Birthday? Check! Brother’s second graduation? Check! Packing my life up? Halfway check!

In a few days, I’m headed to Destin and New Olreans.

And remember my last post about no go to Hong Kong? Things have changed and I’ll be going there in July! Very excited. I haven’t seen my mum’s side of the family since 3rd grade!

Here’s a picture from my Spring Break road trip with the family. This was at Oklahoma. Balancing on that was tough.

Jenny’s graduation is this Saturday. My brother, Tammy, and Billy will be coming in tonight along with Pluto and Krypto! Whoop! So excited … to see Pluto! Winking smile
